Paint color can be a surprisingly tricky thing. And one of the trickiest colors to get right is white. I know it may seem silly, but finding the right balance between cool and warm can be harder than you think. When I said I was searching for a great warm white for our kitchen, I couldn’t get over all of the suggestions I received and how many people had gone through upwards of 10 different colors trying to find the best hue. But for us, it came down to one perfect, warm white (“Tibetan Jasmine” RL1007 by Ralph Lauren Paint) that turned our kitchen from a dark hunter-green space into the bright, white dream room we had always wished for. So today I’m thrilled to share another sneak peek into our new (old) home and how we’ve transformed it in the past two months. xo, grace
deVOL’s trusted builders quickly got to work, transforming the ground and lower ground floors into a showroom and design offices. The renovation took six months, and throughout the process the team wanted to make sure that they kept every possible original detail. The outside of the building was painted and cleaned brick by brick, and during each new stage of the renovation, the beauty of the old building became more and more apparent. “One of my favorite triumphs was getting the OK by listed buildings to replace the dingy shop loo roof with a glass one; it has completely transformed the feel of the shop and allowed us to create a light and bright and very useful pantry and new smart customer loo,” Helen explains.
“We like to mix modern pieces with the beautiful old things we’ve inherited from our French family,” explain Cristina Sciarra and Paul Pinier of their joint decorating style. After meeting in Madrid eight years ago, the couple have lived together in Paris and Brooklyn before purchasing this Jersey City, NJ townhouse apartment. While Cristina works in real estate development, authors the food blog The Roaming Kitchen, and moonlights as a recipe developer and food photographer, Paul works for a French software company with headquarters in Manhattan. They both love to travel, and displaying memories from their worldly adventures takes precedence in the first home they own together
